Symantec pcAnywhere includes the following new features and administrator tools, designed to increase security, optimize performance, and make the software easier to use and customize. XP compatibility pcAnywhere 10.5 is certified by Microsoft as Designed for Windows XP. pcAnywhere is now compatible with all Microsoft 32- bit platforms, so you can connect to any pcAnywhere host computer, regardless of which version of Windows is running. Enhanced logging pcAnywhere 10.5 adds additional logging capabilities including:
Host Assessment Tool This tool lets you check the configuration of your host connection items to ensure that you are taking advantage of the security features in pcAnywhere and helps you identify areas where you might be at risk. Connection status For added security, the host icon in the system tray now displays information about who is connected to the host. Move the cursor over the host icon to see the remote computer name, type of connection, and session duration. Customizable container view The watermarks in the pcAnywhere Manager window help you distinguish between different modes of operation, such as host or remote. The View menu now lets you turn the watermarks on or off, so helpdesk operators and others who manage a large number of connection items can have an unobstructed view of their connection lists. Rebootless Host pcAnywhere Packager lets administrators create host-only packages that do not require end users to restart their computers once the installation is complete. Rebootless host packages provide a quick way to deploy a pcAnywhere host for a support session or to troubleshoot problems on a critical server that cannot be rebooted. Windows NT caller accounts for global users pcAnywhere lets you configure a Windows NT authentication caller account that supports global domain groups that are nested within a local group. Administrators can now add a domain account to the local administrator group that includes all administrators in their company, instead of adding individual accounts to the local administrator group for each administrator. |
